Salon Lumen

Our story

A salon built around the word calm

Salon Lumen opened in 2021 in a former bookbindery on 48 Linden Avenue. Founder Mara Voss had spent fifteen years working in busy city salons and kept hearing the same thing from clients: the results were great, the experience was exhausting.

So she designed the opposite. Four chairs instead of twelve. Bookings with breathing room, so nobody is double parked in a waiting area. Daylight, plants and music kept low enough to hear yourself think.

Today a team of four specialists looks after skin, hair, nails and tired shoulders. We are small on purpose, and we plan to stay that way.

What we stand for

Three rules we never break

Honest advice first

If a treatment will not give you the result you want, we say so before you spend a cent. Long term trust beats a one time sale.

Certified and curious

Everyone on the team holds current certifications and spends at least four days a year in training. Techniques move fast, we keep up.

Light footprint

Refillable color systems, recyclable foils and towels washed cold. Small choices, made every day, on purpose.

The team

Four specialists, one standard

Small team, deep skills. You will always know who is looking after you before you arrive.

Mara Voss

Founder and color specialist

Fifteen years behind the chair in Portland and Copenhagen. Mara opened Salon Lumen to prove a salon can feel like a quiet morning instead of a busy airport.

Jun Park

Lead esthetician

Certified in advanced skin therapy. Jun reads skin the way other people read menus and will tell you honestly when a cheaper routine works better.

Sofia Reyes

Nail artist

Detail obsessed, steady handed and responsible for most of the tiny florals you see in our reviews. Ask for her seasonal color sets.

Amelie Brandt

Massage therapist

Trained in Swedish and deep tissue massage. Amelie checks in on pressure twice per session and remembers exactly where your shoulders hold stress.
